Dai Min is the granddaughter of General Dai Feng Xiang who supported Dr. Sun Yat-Sen in China’s Xinhai Revolution, which overthrew the Qing Dynasty in 1911. She grew up in China as a farm girl and “class enemy” during the Cultural Revolution. As China began its reforms under Deng Xiaoping, she won a national contest in the performing arts in 1978, which lead to her becoming a leading lyric soprano with China’s National Opera Company and a national celebrity. In 1988, she left China to study in Germany, England and America. John Milligan-Whyte proposed to Dai Min the day after they met in 1997, and they were married in 2005. She is an Honorary Research Professor at Beijing University, Honorary Advisor to the Beijing University Education Foundation, a Guest Professor at Beijing Foreign Studies University, and initiated the China Insurance Industry Executive Leadership Program.
